Its Japanese name means ‘River of Heaven’, a poetic name for the Milky Way, and in spring its upright branches are covered with clusters of pale pink, semi-double flowers.

Its naturally narrow, columnar habit makes it particularly useful for smaller gardens and tighter spaces, where it creates height without taking up too much room. Young bronze-green leaves emerge around flowering time, maturing to green before developing warm autumn colour later in the year.

The blossom is lightly fragrant and attractive to pollinators, giving you another reason to enjoy the tree in spring. Elegant rather than bulky, 'Amanogawa' is especially effective beside a path, near an entrance or planted where its distinctive upright shape can be appreciated.

How your tree is supplied:

Supplied as a bare-root tree, grafted onto Colt rootstock. 'Amanogawa' is grafted at ground level, so the upright branches start low down rather than growing from a clear stem.
